PAUL MITCHELL XTERRA TRAIL RUN NATIONALS
OFF-ROAD HALF-MARATHON WHERE THE BEST MEET THE BEST
OGDEN, UTAH – SEPTEMBER 17, 2017 – 9AM

The Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run National Championship will return to the beautiful Snowbasin Resort near Ogden, Utah, in 2017. This year’s event is scheduled for September 17, and it will once again attract some of the best trail runners from across the country.

The Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run Nationals was staged at Snowbasin Resort for the first time in 2011, and it received rave reviews from the runners. Max King of Bend, Oregon, won his fifth consecutive XTERRA Trail Run National title in 2012, and said of the course at Snowbasin Resort: “I love my hometown of Bend, but this was, I gotta say, a great course. It was a lot more climbing than we get in Bend, so this was tough.”

Runners of all ages and skill levels can participate in the Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run National Championship, as there is no qualifying process. Last year, close to 500 trail runners from 30 different states gathered at Snowbasin Resort for the event.

There will be three different courses to accommodate the various levels of runners. A 21-kilometer half-marathon course will serve as the national championship course, but there will also be a 10K and a 5K.

Every age-group winner from the 21K course will be awarded a free entry to race at the 2017 Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run World Championship at Kualoa Ranch, Oahu, Hawaii.

The top five overall males and top five overall females from the 21K course will also receive prize money. Medals and other prizes will also be awarded to the top age-group runners from all three courses.

The Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run Nationals will be held one day after the XTERRA Pan American Championship off-road triathlon to create the ultimate XTERRA racing weekend. The two events will bring more than 1,000 of the nation’s very best amateur and professional triathletes and trail runners to Northern Utah to battle for the title of XTERRA National Champion.

2016 Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run National Championship

Although the elite runners chase the overall crown at the Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run National Championship, the event remains an age-group race.

Twenty-five runners representing 10 different states took home age-group titles at the 2016 Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run Nationals.

The home-state Utah runners led the way with 10 champions, not including Kevin Tuck (formerly from Salt Lake City but now living in Phoenix, AZ). Tuck, 60, was an impressive 21st overall, and this was his unprecedented eighth Paul Mitchell XTERRA Trail Run National Championship age-group win.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR XTERRA TRAIL RUNNING NATIONALS

In 2017 it will not be mandatory to qualify to race for the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship, however, those who finish all three 2076 Colorado Series race under 6 hours will receive special recognition.

XTERRA Trail Series Point Series FAQs / Rules

Any questions about the point series, please email [email protected].

Remember that you the age group you are racing in is based on your age on 12/31/16!

Remember that only ONE RACE at each event is for points, and this is always the longer distance race (15k+).

Important info for the XTERRA Point Series 2016-2017

1. XTERRA Racing Age is the age you will be on December 31st, 2017. We need to fix a firm age for the year so people won’t race in June at one age and in August at another if they have a birthday in-between. For example: If you are 29, but turn 30 on Dec. 20th, you will be racing in the 30-34 division all season. XTERRA Trail Run Series age groups: <9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.

2. Enter as many XTERRA Trail Runs as you can - To contend for a regional series title you’ll need to race in as many events within the regional series as possible to score maximum points.

There are 5 races in the 2016-2017 Xterra Trail Series, your final score will be calculated based on your top 6 races. It’s not mandatory that you race in all events in the Series, but your chances of winning the region are much better if you do. You will be allocated “0” points for races in your Series that you do not enter.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If there are two race distances offered on the same day, only the longer distance event counts for points. For example, if there is a 5k and a 15k race on the same day, only the 15k will count for points.

3. Accumulate Points – Points are awarded to the top 15 finishers in each age group. Please see the points breakdown below. Current standings will be posted to XTERRAPlanet.com after each event. Points stay within the region you raced in and do not transfer.

Series Champs can also race for free in the 5k or 10k offered at Nationals if they wish, but only the 21k Xduro is considered the national championship race.

5. Tie Breakers – Ties in point standings will be settled by:
